What is ITBeurope?

ITBeurope - IT Business and research in Europe - was originally founded in 2005 in Vienna, Austria, as a network of European ICT associations to foster international cooperation, support export and internationalisation, technology transfer and research. Its focuses are small and medium sized enterprises on one hand, and the markets in Central and Eastern Europe.

ITBeurope's activies range from business development to marketing, partner search, consulting, event planning, market overviews, studies, technology transfer, as well as EU projects.

ITBeurope’s acting chairman is Günther Krumpak.

Major changes

From 2008, ITBeurope will be run as a project within the framework of a commercial enterprise. The reason for this major structural change is that the markets demanded more and more commercial activities which did not match anymore the tasks of a non profit organisation.

The enterprise running ITBeurope in the future will be CEconsult, a consultancy specialised in ICT business in Central and Eastern Europe. Its activities largely overlap with ITBeurope's agenda. CEconsult and its large network offer a highly efficient infrastructure for the requirements of the numerous small and medium sized ICT enterprises and research organisations in Europe.

Background:

Europe’s share of the world's information and communications technology (ICT) market is 29%, but countries like Sweden, Switzerland and Finland there is a much higher potential. The rates in European innovation, R&D and export can be raised substantially. Especially the markets in the new EU accession states indicate high potential with annual growth rates between 10 and 20%.

The European Union plans to make Europe the most competitive economic region worldwide. This goal needs a lot of effort. Europe’s information and communication technology industries can be among the key economic factors to reach this goal if they understand Europe as a market and take advantage of its opportunities.
